Experience the command line with CodeAcademy

In this experience, you will become familiar with the command line by going through the Code Academy course.

First, sign up for an account on CodeAcademy.

Next, complete the first five parts of the Command line track on CodeAcademy:

1. Navigation
2. Manipulation of files and directories
3. Redirecting input and output
4. Environment configuration

Here is a summary of the commands you will learn. While these commands are unix-centric, Windows differs in only slight ways, so it is worth your while to go through this tutorial even if your own OS is Windows.

The pace is a little slow at times, but just slog through it if you are uncomfortable with the command line. CodeAcademy estimates 3 hours for the whole course.
