For this experience, join the ICS 314 Google discussion group and, once your request to join has been approved, post a short introductory paragraph about yourself. This provides info to your fellow students, and also verifies that you have joined the discussion group and can post to it.
Important notes:
Unfortunately, you cannot join the discussion group using your hawaii.edu account. You’ll need to sign up using a gmail account. If you need to create a gmail account specifically for this purpose, make sure to forward all of its mail to your hawaii.edu account so that you receive postings in a timely manner.
Be sure to post it as a ‘reply’ to the “Introduce yourself” posting. Do not post your introduction as a new topic. That way, all of these postings will be organized in one place.
Configure your settings for this discussion group to “notify for every new message”. Do not set it to “Don’t send email updates”, “Send daily summaries”, etc. . In past years, students have missed assignments and important announcements due to incorrect settings.
It is your responsibility to receive information about this class via the newsgroup promptly. If you don’t want the hassle of checking your gmail account, just set it to forward all messages to your hawaii.edu account.
Assume it might take up to 12 hours for me to notice your request to join and to approve your membership in the group, so don’t wait until the last minute to do this task.
By the time and date indicated on the Schedule page, your introductory posting must appear in the ICS 314 discussion group.
