A Design Charrette (pronounced shuh-ret) is “an intense period of focused activity”, typically in small groups prior to a deadline.
In this class period, you will split up into small groups and spend an hour creating user interface design for RadGrad widgets based upon the RadGrad MVP Page Specifications.
Notice that the widgets are numbered from 1 to 10.
You will form four groups numbered 1 to 4.
Your group is assigned to work on every fourth widget, starting with your group number. So if your group number is 1, you will work on Widget 1, Widget 5, Widget 9, Widget 3, Widget 7, etc. If your group number is 2, you will work on Widget 2, 6, 10, 4, 8, and so on.
In most cases, your group should come up with at least two alternative designs for a widget, along with pros and cons for each choice.
I am assuming that you’ll spend about 10-15 minutes on each widget, and thus will design about 4 widgets in the hour. But you are free to spend less or more time on a widget if you need to.
Don’t use fake text (“lorum ipsum”) or squiggly lines without meaning. All text and graphics should be realistic. For example, do not create a chart with an X-Y axis and a squiggly arrow moving upward! What does that even mean? How does that convey something interesting to the user?
You will present your design for group critique at the end of class.
Philip will take photos of your mockups at the end of class and make notes on your presentation.
