A Design Charrette (pronounced shuh-ret) is “an intense period of focused activity”, typically in small groups prior to a deadline.
In this class period, you will split up into small groups and spend an hour synthesizing your prior mockups of a RadGrad page into a new and improved page design for presentation to the class.
Form four groups.
For the first 10 minutes or so, each group should discuss and decide which of the four pages (landing, home, profile, or degree planner) they will focus on. To decide, review each other’s mockups and figure out which page you will be able to most improve during the hour. Do not simply “pick a winner” and replicate it on the whiteboard.
Your group will have the following materials to design with: a whiteboard, 2 dry-erase markers, a pair of scissors, index cards, and (nonpermanent) glue stick. You can cut the index cards into squares or circles if you like. You can also use your colored pencils.
Use any combination of the materials to create mockup(s) of your chosen page on the whiteboard. Try to make multiple mockups of the page, by either: (1) presenting alternative designs for one or more components of the page, or (2) showing the page in different “states”.
Avoid using “lorum ipsum” text or squiggly lines and charts without meaning. Try to make your mockup content as realistic as possible. Text and graphics should be plausible.
You will present your design for group critique at the end of class.
Philip will take photos of your mockups at the end of class and make notes on your presentation.
